What’s in a name?
So, one of my bf’s forever (almost 18 years) were talking on the phone today about names that define relationships. She has a guy in her life that has been with her 3 years. They live together and basically are married without the paper. I asked her what she called him to other people and she said her boyfriend.
Now, she’s in her 40′s, he’s close to 40, or is 40 and I’m wondering what other terms of endearment are out there for those of us who aren’t in high school or college. We started throwing some out there and maybe you out in cyber world can help us figure it out.
Significant other. It is just too damn long, end of story. Partner, sounds like a homosexual relationship or a business deal. Friend, doesn’t do the relationship justice, makes it sound way too casual. My man, sorry, just to ghetto for me. I can use my guy, but I’m really not a “My man” kind of gal, and btw, I don’t like being called “my woman”. So what’s left??I suppose you could use husband or wife, even though technically it’s not correct.
Seriously, WTF??? Why don’t those of us over 40 get a special name to call our special people? When you’re over 80, the boyfriend/girlfriend title sounds cute again, I think because you’re old and who gives a shit what you call things. My golden age is 84 and if I get to that age, I’m drinking martini’s in the morning and having the assisted living bus pick me up and take me back to the “home” where I’m going to eat whatever the hell I want. ( I shouldn’t be talking right now as I’m eating Doritos and drinking a beer! hahahahah) Maybe assisted living for me is gonna hit in the 50′s!
I need some help here folks, manfriend sounds stupid and my lover sounds like I’m just banging him. (that may be the case, but most of the time not with me, I have a toy box remember?) Anywhoo, assistance would be greatly appreciated, so let me know!
